ALLIANZ INSURANCE RESPONDS TO ONS NEIGHBOURLY SURVEY

Jon Dye, CEO of Allianz Insurance comments on the ONS findings: “Despite figures showing that neighbourliness in the UK is lower than elsewhere in the EU our recent findings contrast this and show that the majority of Britons talk to their neighbours regularly, think they are friendly, polite and happy to help each other out when they can. Most people would prefer to live in a safe and vibrant community; having good relationships between neighbours is a key part in achieving that and we believe that neighbourliness is thriving in our communities.”

Today’s ONS research shows that Britons aren’t feeling connected to their neighbours but recent research from Allianz Insurance challenges this with findings such as:

·  71% of the UK population chat to their neighbours at least weekly, with many speaking more frequently than that

·  61% of people say that their next door neighbour is friendly, approachable (53%) and polite (50%)

·  44% feel that their neighbours are trustworthy and would happily give them a spare key to their home (28%)

·  74% of neighbours take in deliveries and almost half (46%) keeping a watchful eye on their neighbour’s home when they’re away
