STORM DESMOND – ALLIANZ UK UPDATE

This morning has been a busy time for Allianz claims handlers dealing with customers affected by Storm Desmond.

Here is an update on the current situation:

  • We have experienced a 300% increase in the normal of customer calls to our household claims teams and 100% in commercial
  • The worst hit areas are Carlisle, Lancaster and Lanarkshire
  • Our Loss Adjusters are on the ground dealing with our customer claims and arranging temporary accommodation and interim payments
  • We are proactively contacting customers who live and work in the affected postcode areas by email, text and telephone calls and our claims contact telephone numbers are on the internet and have been communicated via social media
  • Claims colleagues have been reallocated to claims helplines to help deal with the surge in customer calls
  • Claims Operational Manager, Jeremy Trott said: “We have received a significant increase in calls from customer affected by Storm Desmond which we dealt with well. The number of calls dropped markedly from 10:30am but clearly we will receive more as people return to their homes once the flood waters have subsided.”

Jeremy added: “It is currently too early to say what Storm Desmond is likely to cost and our priority right now is helping our customers through this difficult time.We were well prepared for a severe weather incident and implemented our plans which included contacting our customers before the event to provide advice. We have Loss Adjusters on the ground now speaking to customers and arranging temporary accommodation and interim payments.”

Allianz has the following advice for the people affected by Storm Desmond:

  • Contact your insurer as soon as possible if your property has been damaged. Record as much of the damage as possible, by taking pictures using a camera or smartphone.
  • Keep receipts or any paperwork for emergency repair works you may have to make as this will help when you make a claim.
  • Contamination from floodwater may remain even if the water has gone, so wear wellingtons or rubber gloves if possible.
  • Check the building for any signs of damage, debris or unstable objects could move suddenly and trap you.
  • Be warned that a small amount of moving water is enough to sweep you off of your feet.
  • ENDS
