Press release -

Allianz employees plant 1,000 trees in the Surrey Hills

Allianz employees planted trees in the Surrey Hills on Friday 25 February to celebrate the Guildford head office reducing the amount of paper it uses.

Over 120 colleagues planted 1,000 native trees and shrubs in Cranleigh’s Knowle Park, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy which marks the Platinum Jubilee.

The Allianz Copse includes English oaks, common beeches, hornbeams, field maples, common alders, sweet chestnuts, hawthorns, wild crab apples, blackthorns, hazels, Scots pines, black cherry plums and snowy mespiluses. It will be maintained by the Knowle Park Trust, a charity set up to create a new 60 acre public park in Cranleigh.

Allianz has removed 75% of printers in its offices and replaced paper with electronic communications to reduce its environmental footprint. The company also gives UK employees 20 hours each year to help their local communities; some spent part of that volunteering time planting these trees.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, took part in the event organised by Surrey Hills Enterprises, a community interest company. This is part of a campaign to increase sustainability, support nature recovery projects and protect the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for future generations.
