ALLIANZ UK CHIEF EXECUTIVE COMMENTS ON ‘GET A REAL DEAL’ GHOST BROKING CAMPAIGN
Jon Dye, Chief Executive of Allianz UK comments on the 'Get a Real Deal' campaign to raise awareness of ghost broking among British consumers:
“Our fraud teams have been working with industry bodies to tackle the growing problem of ghost broking. Fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated and we are doing everything we can to protect vulnerable consumers from becoming victims.
“This type of fraud often affects those on low incomes as well as young people facing costly insurance and those for whom English isn’t their first language. The policies leave innocent motorists unknowingly uninsured and the cost of claims on invalid policies is inevitably being subsidised by insurers and customers with genuine insurance protection. The impact may also be felt more widely by society as the proceeds from ghostbroking may also fund broader criminal activity.
“Protecting customers is our priority and we are continuing to develop and implement tools to track down and disrupt the criminals at the heart of ghostbroking. Consumers also need to be aware of the tell-tale signs that all is not well such as a price that feels too good to be true, getting a quote without providing complete information and buying insurance through non traditional routes such as unofficial websites and small ads“
